Dinner Theatre - St. Marys Community Players present I hate Hamlet.
- Three course dinner, tax, gratuity, theatre ticket and donation to the Library .... more
Sponsored by the Friends, St. Marys Community Players present I hate Hamlet. Andrew seems to have it all: celebrity and acclaim from his starring role on a hit TV series, a beautiful girlfriend, a devoted agent, the perfect NY apartment and the chance to play Hamlet in Central Park. There are a few problems though: his series has been canceled, he has a long standing problem with his girlfriend, a producer is hounding him about a new series and he has no desire to play Hamlet. After his agent confesses to a brief fling with the famous John Barrymore many years ago in Andrew's new apartment, a seance is conducted and the ghost of the famous actor is summoned to assist Andrew with his problems, with all the panache of a star.

Library Reference materials has Friends

The Reference materials got a boost last year with a $4,000 donation from the Friends of the St. Marys Public Library. The funds helped to replenish the reference collection and to help purchase other materials. In 2005, the Friends topped the $2,000 mark for funds raised through their Annual Giant Book Sale, where volunteers work to raise money by selling withdrawn library material and donated books, magazines, CDs and other items.

With more than a $7,000 donation, the Friends also supported the the purchase of other materials and the Adult Learning Program through other fundraising activities. Said the Chair, Carol Passmore, "The library is still under tremendous financial pressure and needs friends and advocates now more than ever."  Thanks to all the volunteers for their time and support.

About the Friends

The Friends of the Library is a group of volunteers who work to support the programs and services of the St. Marys Public Library through fundraising, promotion, and volunteering of personal and professional services.
Fundraising
The friends support the St. Marys Public Library by raising money in several ways:
  • Donations
  • Annual Giant Book sales
  • Silent Auctions
  • Welcome Newcomer Program
  • Ticket sales for Friends-sponsored event partnering with St. Marys Community Players
  • Flower Bulbs sales
  • Summer BBQs
  • Breakfast at the Farmers' Market
  • Letters to perspective donors
Each year the Friends of the St. Marys Public Library holds a Giant Book Sale.  The sale will have more than 100,000 selections.  Usually more than 15 volunteers  work more than 500 hours each year to make the sales so successful.
New and used books (fiction/nonfiction for adults, teens, and children), tapes, audio books, records, CDs, DVD's, and many others items  are sold inexpensively. 85% of the items are donated by people in our community, with the remainder from the library.  The Silent Auction and the 50/50 draws go on during the book sale.
